Hometown Tourism. Cyprus through fresh eyes

Hometown Tourism. Cyprus through fresh eyes

It’s a common theme amongst locals and expats alike. You’ve worked and saved towards your dream, and finally ended up renting a property in Cyprus. The first few months are like living in paradise. Every experience is new, even popping to the local shop to get milk feels like an adventure as you come across sights and sounds you’ve never seen before.

But slowly, over time you adjust. That ocean view is all too familiar. You’ve walked all the streets, people know you by name at the local tavern, and you start to get…comfortable.

This is a natural feeling for anyone who has settled in a new place. Feeling like part of the furniture leads you to crave something new and exciting. A hidden market or a previously unknown beach. You yearn for a bit of adventure and something to make you feel alive, reminding you why you came to Cyprus in the first place.

This week the real estate agents at Quicklets shine a spotlight on some of the places and activities in and around Limassol that will help you feel like a tourist again in your own town.

Even though you’re renting a property in Cyprus, you can leave the crowds behind for a while and hike the Troodos foothills.

A world of pure imagination

Just North of Limassol you can find the Troodos mountains. Filled with secret waterfalls and just about every shade of green imaginable, you can wander amongst ancient pathways, cross over moss covered stone bridges and hear local birdsong as leaves crunch underfoot.

Living in a rental property in Cyprus, you have the comfort of your four walls and a solid roof, but pack a tent and sleeping bag to go and spend a night under the stars, stopping time for a few hours in this incredible forest land greeted by the smell of pine trees in the shadow of mount Olympus.

If an evening away from your bed is a bit too much to ask, simply hike through the hills for the day ending up at the Tsiakkas Winery where you will be rewarded for your efforts with a tasting of some of the best local vino as you look out over Akrotiri Bay.

Food for the soul

After having found a property to rent in Cyprus, it would be natural to want to immerse yourself in the local culture in a way that really shows you what the country has to offer. And nowhere is more perfect for this than the numerous festivals that take place throughout the year. Each month hosts something new. From the Almond festival in February which coincides with the blooming of local almond trees, to the Cyprus Herb Event in October (learn about over 600 indigenous herbs and oils). There really is something for everyone, with music, drinking, dancing and a dive into the local heritage, opening your eyes to a different side of Cyprus.

Adrenaline overload

Now if you really want to get the blood pumping, there is also an abundance of extreme sporting endeavours you can try your hand at. From snow skiing on Mt Olympus (yes, you read right. There is snow in Cyprus), to diving the depths off the coast and exploring underwater caves, caverns and wrecks.

Without even scratching the surface, these are just a handful of the various experiences that can be had within an hour of your Limassol property rental. There are still the extensive tours, the grand architecture and historic sites that are within easy travelling distance. All of these can be booked through local centres which can easily be accessed through the tourism board who can put you in touch with friendly and qualified local agents. And if you haven’t yet found your ideal property to rent in Cyprus, give Quicklets a call where one of our agents will be pleased to show you our wide range of rental properties in Limassol to get you settled and ready to go out and explore.
